Travel over the bridge and back in time to the relaxed beach-surrounded Anna Maria Island.
In its early years, the only way to get to Anna Maria Island, on Florida's Gulf coast, was by boat. It wasn't until 1921 that the three towns on the island, Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria were connected to the mainland. Now, although this seven-and-a-half-mile island is accessible via three different bridges, it is natural once over those bridges to feel you've gone back in time.
Because strict zoning laws prohibit high-rise development, the entire island has just two structures with more than three stories.
