With locations for endurance rides, touring or checking out the beach, Delray Beach offers safe and fun cycling opportunities.

Located north of Boca Raton in southeast Florida, Delray Beach offers an abundance of shopping, dining, indoor and outdoor recreational activities, including its fair share of places to pedal. Whether you’re looking for speed, touring the town or out for a coast, you’ll find safe cycling opportunities in beautiful Delray Beach.

The State Road A1A portion in Delray Beach is perfect for the traditional cyclist, seeking a speedy, endurance challenge. And not to worry: As a direct result of the efforts of "Safety As Floridians Expect" known as SAFE, road safety has been advocated on State Road A1A.

Another area of the city designated to become more pedestrian and bicycle friendly is Federal Highway 1, part of the Delray Beach US1 Corridor Enhancement Project. A modifications study is in place on the stretch of road, so that the proposed addition of widened sidewalks and a 4-foot bike lane will mitigate the possibility of accidents, thus making the city more pedestrian and bicycle friendly.

Those looking for a more scenic and unique experience can join the locals by cycling through alleyways as well as the many charming “off the beaten paths” of Delray Beach. It may take a greater knowledge of the city and various neighborhoods, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore.

The local community of cycling enthusiasts continues to grow, while a significant amount of cyclists who pass through Delray Beach hail from Broward and other parts of Palm Beach County. As the interest in ecological alternatives increase, visitors and locals alike can anticipate more cycling lovers and bicycle-friendly thoroughfares.

Looking for rentals or supplies? In addition to cycling gear, Richwagen’s Bike & Sport also offers Water Sports equipment, as well as accessories, clothing and repairs. 298 NE 6th Avenue, (561) 243-BIKE/2453, www.delraybeachbicycle.com.
