Kissimmee: Theme Parks and Beyond
Connected to Orlando at the hip, Kissimmee gives vacationers all that playtime city has to offer plus the golf courses, cattle ranching heritage, lake tours and hometown friendliness it calls its own.

It's a Wild, Wild Life in Naples
There's a good reason it's called the Paradise Coast. More than 80 percent of Collier County in southwest Florida, which encompasses Naples, Marco Island and the western side of the Everglades, is designated as parkland and nature preserves.

Need More Beach
It really struck home a few weeks ago that I need more beach in my life (really everybody does). And one of my favorite places to 'get more beach' is Southwest Florida's Paradise Coast – Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades, where the beach is always close by.

Longboat by Boat
As she picks through, Capt. Kim finds a tiny-nosed “fish” that is the color and size of an inchworm and has a nose that, as far as I can make out, looks rather like a toy Sea Monkey. “This is a pipe fish,” says Capt. Kim. “He is a cousin of the sea horse, but he is really little.”

Natural Kissimmee
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, sign up for one of the night trips. And yes, those red eyes you see scattered across the lake belong to alligators. But don’t worry – they are well-fed and even better-behaved.

Splash Down in Key West
Offshore charters troll the deep waters of the Florida Straits for marlin, sailfish, shark and swordfish, the tough-fighting fish Ernest Hemingway loved to pursue when he lived in Key West in the 1930s.

St. Johns River Houseboat Adventure
Today, the St. Johns River retains its Old Florida charm, but adventurers can explore this age-old river in style – and with all the comforts of home – in a fully equipped houseboat.

Sports with a Splash
Bright formations of brain and staghorn coral, thousands of fish so colorful they look neon, super-sized sea turtles, moray eels and Caribbean spiny lobster keep you company as you watch from above or dive into their world.

Beyond the Broadwalk
Hollywood boasts seven miles of beaches, which have been designated Blue Wave beaches by the Clean Beaches Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting America's shores. And the area's expanse of white sand and turquoise waters makes it easy to see why. No wonder folks are serious about their beach-going in these parts.

Navigating Florida's Inlets
Florida is blessed with hundreds of miles of inland waterway that give boaters a protected route up and down the entire east coast and much of the west coast.

Sumptuous Solaris
The Solaris is a wonderful experience – the food is excellent, the entertainment first class and the yacht itself a beauty. But it’s the people behind the Solaris who truly make this dinner cruise exceptional.

Tourney Time
The boredom evaporates instantly once a reel starts screaming. We had our first hit at 10:30 a.m. The fish took the bait, then dropped it, a common occurrence with dolphin.

Long Distance Fishing: Chasing the Big Ones off the Dry Tortugas
The Yankee Captains has been bringing amateur anglers to the Dry Tortugas area since 1977 and has found and charted nearly 3,000 hot spots for catching snapper and grouper.

Boating the Intracoastal Waterway
If you want to bring your own boat to Florida, my advice is to do the trip yourself if you have the time, at least the first time. It’s a great experience.

The Boat of Your Dreams
Had we known in advance how much we would enjoy cruising, we could have gone straight for the big boat and saved ourselves thousands of dollars in brokerage commissions and depreciation on the two smaller boats. Live and learn.

Ultimate Key West Adventure
We hooked into a tandem harness and were dragged into the sky under the bright, colorful canopy of a parasail. The turquoise ocean stretched beneath us, the boat became toy-sized, and we got a glimpse of Key West from an eagle’s view.

Live the Outdoor Life
Located on a peninsula with a string of barrier islands, the St. Petersburg/ Clearwater area is a sea-lover's fantasy. There are more than 35 miles of sandy beaches and 600 miles of shoreline.

Fishing, in Martin County, we discovered, has known its own celebrity and historically been the sport of presidents. Water clearly links Martin County's past to its present.

Float Your Boat to Florida
If you’re thinking about bringing your boat for either a short visit or a prolonged stay, think ahead. If the boat can’t be kept on a trailer or at a private dock, call ahead to reserve a slip in a marina.

A Marriage Made in Water
The technique is to cast ahead, allow the minnow to sink and then reel it in slowly with alternating jerks to create a splashing sound that attracts the fish.

Shipwrecked
I’m talking Florida shipwrecks, where crystalline waters harbor wrecks teeming with marine life, and the history books have plenty of colorful stories to tell.

Island Intrigue
I love to walk the quiet streets lined with taverns, clapboard cottages and tin-roofed huts, all reminders that – despite a bustling tourism crowd – this was, and still is, a commercial fishing village with a frontier persona.

You Can't Hide From the Best Guide
The time of day we head out has a major bearing on our success. As he quickly points out, fish will bite all day in the spring, but early mornings and late afternoon are the best bets in the summer heat.

Under the Boardwalk
"Downtown" Hollywood is undergoing a modern makeover, but at Hollywood Beach, the Broadwalk wears its history proudly. There's a timeless appeal to the visitors' strolling, shopping, playing and dining before the open sand and the Atlantic Ocean. It's a haven for people and people-watchers of all ages.

The 927-acre park also features an undeveloped beach on the Atlantic Ocean. We tied the kayaks to the park dock and strolled along a 3,300-foot boardwalk, past cabbage palms and paradise trees.

Captain's Log: Sailing the Florida Keys
From our aft deck we could watch the take-offs and landings of huge flocks of terns, gulls and herons. We grilled up some chicken we'd been marinating.

Houseboating on Nature's Doorstep
The lower portion of the Suwannee is a nature preserve, so we saw very little development or housing. Just our drifting boat along the winding river, and not a billboard or electrical wire for miles.

Saltwater Fishing
It's deep, it's blue, and it's full of large game fish that can turn the shape of a rod into a pretzel. Here lurk awesome battlers such as blue marlin, wahoo, sailfish, dolphin, kingfish, swordfish, yellowfin and blackfin tuna, and sharks longer than the width of some boats.
