Apalachicola Visitor Center & Chamber of Commercevia Facebook The Florida State University Coastal & Marine Lab is offering a Naturalists’ Short-Course Series Evening at the Edge of the Sea Saturday, May 19, from 6 PM – 9 PM This is a short course spent on the edge of Apalachee Bay, learning about the many creatures that live at the interface of land and sea and how they make a living in this highly variable environment. The program includes a brief, illustrated overview of the general ecology of this part of the Gulf of Mexico, highlighting its more intriguing habitats and organisms. After a short, guided walking tour of the Lab, participants will meet some of the local marine denizens in our seawater touch-tanks. From there, everyone will don wading shoes* and walk the exposed tidal sands where an array of fascinating life-forms can be seen. Finally, all will end up back in the auditorium for some Q & A, visiting and refreshments. Please select only one date and Be ready to get muddy, of course, and enjoy yourself in nature. Cost: $25 for adults/$20 for FSU students and those under 18. The fee largely goes to support undergraduate research in marine biology. We can accommodate 5-12 participants. The minimum age is 12. * What to bring: Old sneakers or similar footwear, but NO sandals. May 16, 2012 |
